Exhibition Title: Beautiful Buddhist Images of the Silk Road

In autumn 2025, to commemorate the 95th anniversary of Ikuo Hirayama’s birth, we will hold the special exhibition “Beautiful Buddhist Images of the Silk Road.”

This exhibition introduces the museum’s collection of Buddhist statues, which Ikuo Hirayama and his wife, Michiko, collected over many years and later donated to the museum. These exquisite Buddhist images were gathered by Hirayama, who traveled along the Silk Road, entrusted his prayers for peace to his brush, and created numerous works.

These Buddhist statues are highly regarded as precious cultural heritage of global importance. As research and study from various perspectives continue to advance, renewed attention is being drawn to their value.
