    Fossil Excavation Experience: Preferred Time Slot Giveaway Announcement

    【Sandbag Carrying Volunteers Wanted】 If you are able to participate in the volunteer activity below on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, we will offer you your preferred reservation slot for the Fossil Excavation Experience as a gift. Each slot is for two people. This offer is limited to five families only, with two participants per family. Please note that the person who participates in the sandbag carrying volunteer work will be admitted free of charge. The accompanying participant will be required to pay the regular participation fee. Applications will close once all slots have been filled. We look forward to your participation. ◆ Date and Time: Wednesday, July 22, 2026 Please gather at 9:00 a.m. The activity is expected to finish around 10:30 a.m. ◆ Activity Details: Unloading sandbags Approximately 300 sandbags loaded on a truck will be unloaded by five volunteers and museum staff. This year, the amount is smaller than usual, and there will be no tent setup work. ◆ What to Bring / What to Wear: Work gloves Clothes that you do not mind getting dirty ◆ Gift Details: Please prepare two to three preferred dates and times for the Fossil Excavation Experience.     Exhibition Title: “Ikuo Hirayama: Painting Japan — Ancient Capitals, the Four Seasons, and Mountains and Rivers of Prayer” Part I: The Road to Oirase Exhibition Period: Friday, June 19 – Monday, September 28, 2026 Open every day during the exhibition period. Known as a painter of the Silk Road, Ikuo Hirayama also turned his profound gaze toward Japan’s ancient capitals and the natural beauty of its changing seasons. This exhibition presents a selection of works depicting the beauty of Japan, tracing the spirit of prayer embodied in clear streams, mountains, and rivers. Enjoy the original landscapes of Japan during summer in the Yatsugatake Highlands. The flyer can be downloaded here.
