March 25–26: 《Fully Booked》 Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum Art & Wine Special Tour

On the opening day of the museum’s spring exhibition, we will hold a cultural tourism experience tour where participants can enjoy the region’s cultural, natural, and culinary resources in a comprehensive way.

In springtime Yamanashi, enjoy a wellbeing-focused experience together with senior sommelier Yasunobu Komaki, who will serve as the guide on Day 1, and regional tourism development manager Manami Gomi, who will serve as the guide on Day 2.

【Overview】

〇 Day 1: Senior sommelier Yasunobu Komaki, who lives at the southern foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains, will accompany participants on the bus as a guide.

〇 Shigetaka Iwama, factory manager of the boutique winery Lumière Winery, which produced the Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum limited-edition wine featuring a painting as its label, will guide participants through the vineyard and winery. This will include the nationally registered tangible cultural property semi-underground stone fermentation tanks, underground cellar, and more.

〇 Tasting seminar by sommelier Komaki
・Two wines, including Komaki Vineyard “Prologue Rouge Special,” produced at Lumière Winery

〇 Lunch will be served at Zelkova, the winery restaurant attached to Lumière.
Enjoy a Yamanashi French half-course meal featuring local ingredients and a fish main dish, paired with two wines.

〇 A museum curator will provide a special guided tour of the Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum on the opening day of the 2023 spring exhibition, “From West of the Kunlun Mountains: Commemorating the Return from the China Traveling Exhibition.” Participants will also enjoy a welcome drink while viewing the evening scenery.

〇 In the museum’s privately reserved 2nd-floor museum café, chef Kazunori Waragai of the French restaurant Restaurant Ashihana will prepare a special dinner. Guests will enjoy the dinner together with the Hirayama Ikuo Silk Road Museum limited-edition wine. Museum Director Toko Hirayama will also join the dinner and provide explanations of three artworks related to wine. Sommelier Komaki will explain the museum’s original wine.

*The three wine-related artworks will be displayed specially for this tour only.

〇 Accommodation will be at Hotel Hut Walden, a classic hotel in Kiyosato at the southern foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains, with breakfast included. Optional activities include a Hakushu whisky tasting at Bar Perch and a barefoot morning walk.

〇 Shun Funaki, manager of Moegi no Mura ROCK, will guide participants through the Yatsugatake Beer Touchdown brewery, including tasting and a souvenir. Joji Funaki, village chief of Moegi no Mura, will guide participants through the secret wine cellar.

Participants will also stroll through the natural garden and other areas, and visit the birch grove connected to Touchdown Beer’s “Shirakaba Beat,” where they may be able to see birch sap being collected. Shopping will also be available at Moegi no Mura Essengarten.

〇 At the end of the tour, participants will enjoy a wood-fired lunch in a newly opened space at the gourmet destination Kiyosato Auberge. The meal will feature organic certified beef and Yatsugatake vegetables, paired with two wines.

*Wood-fired cooking refers to a cooking method in which the type of firewood, the temperature and humidity of the day, and the condition of the ingredients are all taken into account. The position on the OFYR open-fire grill, distance from the flames, and cooking time are carefully adjusted. It is an appealing cooking method that brings out the deliciousness of ingredients through both boldness and delicacy.
